Why it matters

A skipped interval is the most common reason a unit fails

Gyro stabilizers are built to run with very little attention, which is exactly why they get forgotten. The failures we’re called out for are almost never sudden — they’re a cooling restriction, a weeping seal or a tired pump that would have shown up on an inspection the previous fall.

The annual service exists to catch those. It also keeps your service record current, which matters for warranty claims and shows up in the price when you sell the boat.

Scope of work

What the annual service covers

Every visit follows the same sequence, and every visit ends with a report walked through with you or your captain before we leave the boat.

  • Mounting and foundation

Bolt torque verified against spec, foundation and bearing surfaces checked for movement, fatigue or working against the structure.

  • Seawater cooling circuit

Strainer stripped and cleaned, hoses and fittings inspected along their length, pump assessed for wear, and flow confirmed with the unit under load rather than at idle.

  • Hydraulic and brake system

Pressure checked, every fitting inspected for weeping, and the accumulator replaced on models where the service schedule calls for it.

  • Electrical and control

Terminals and connections opened and checked for corrosion, grounds verified, and the stored fault log read and interpreted — including codes that cleared themselves.

  • Fluids

Drained, flushed and refilled to specification. We don’t top off and call it serviced.

  • Handover

A dated record for your file listing what was found, what was replaced, and what we’d watch before next season — in language you can act on.

How it works

From request to report

  1. 01

    Send the details

Vessel name, location, model and serial number. Fault codes too, if the display is showing any.

  2. 02

    Get a quote

A fixed price for the service and the next available window in your area — usually within a business day.

  3. 03

    We come to the boat

In the water, in the slip. Most single-unit services are done in a day and need nothing from you but access and shore power.

  4. 04

    Report and reminder

A written record goes in your file, and we tell you when the next interval falls due so it doesn’t get away from you.

Between services

There’s a short list of things owners and captains should do after every trip and every three months. It takes minutes and prevents most of what we get called out for — see the maintenance schedule.

Common questions

Before you book

How far ahead should I book?

Six to eight weeks before your season if you want a specific date. Spring and fall calendars fill first, and a unit that’s down in August is down for the trip you planned around.

Does the boat need to come out of the water?

Almost never. The annual service is done in the water, in the slip, with shore power available. If we find something during inspection that needs a haul-out, you’ll hear it before we start disassembly, not after.

How long does it take?

Most single-unit services are a single day aboard. Twin installations and larger units can run into a second day. We’ll tell you which when we quote it.

What if you find something during the inspection?

We stop and call you with what it is, what it costs and how urgent it is. You decide whether it happens on this visit or the next one. Nothing gets done without your approval.

Do I need to be there?

No, as long as we have access and shore power. But we’d rather walk the report through with you or your captain in person if you can make it — that conversation is where most owners learn something useful about their boat.

What if my unit is out of warranty?

We service units of any age, in or out of warranty. If yours is approaching the end of its coverage, ask about extended options while it still qualifies — that window closes on a date, not on a conversation.
